386 La Crusc Tour

Mountainbike

General description

This tour enchants with numerous trails and above all the beautiful Dolomite panorama. High above the village of Badia, the highlight of the tour awaits: the place of pilgrimage Holy Cross, called La Crusc in the Ladin language. Not only the beautifully idyllic church is worth a visit, but especially the refreshment stop right next door with traditional food. The bike highlight, on the other hand, is trail no. 15 from La Crusc to St. Cassian: this mountain trail is really fun and demands some riding skills. All in all, a bike tour with all the ingredients a biker could wish for.

Route description

From Selva Gardena you take the Dantercepies cable car up. Here the first flow trail, the "Cir Giara" down to the Gardena Pass, is already waiting. From Gardena Pass another trail leads to Colfosco. The cycle path from Colfosco to La Ila runs along a stream and is really relaxing. With the Gardenaccia cable car we save a few metres in altitude again. An interesting trail in S0 to S2 level leads again towards La Ila. From here, we follow forest and meadow paths past Lech da Sompunt to Badia. The Santa Creusc cable car takes you up towards the pilgrimage church. This enchanting chapel stands under the mighty rock face of the Sas dla Crusc. It was built in 1484 by Count Volkhold of St. Lorenzen and consecrated to the Holy Cross in the same year by Bishop Konrad of Brixen. La Crusc, as it is called in Ladin, became the destination of many pilgrims over the course of time and was therefore extended in rococo style around 1650. In 1718, the adjacent Holy Cross Hospice was added, which today, together with the chapel, makes up the delightful ensemble. It served as accommodation for pilgrims and as a residence for the sacristan. Today, the listed building houses a refuge. An extensive rest here is a must, as is a hearty lunch of traditional dishes.

Invigorated by this wonderful meal, the bike highlight of the tour awaits: the mountain trail 15. This is a technically quite demanding mountain trail with very interesting transitions (S2). The first section is flat and then goes downhill through the forest to Rüdeferia and San Ciascian.

The panorama at the foot of the Sasso Santa Croce and the Lavarela is breathtaking.

From San Ciascian the Piz Sorega cable car helps us again to save some high meters. Via a gravel road we reach the Biock panoramic point. From here, gravel roads and pathes lead down to Corvara. From Corvara we ride again to Colfosco and up with the Plans-Frara cable car to above the Gardena Pass.

After a short descent on gravel to the Gardena Pass, there is another great section on various paths below the imposing rock faces of the Sella massif to Plan de Gralba.

From Plan de Gralba, a path to the left of the river leads to Selva Gardena and back to the starting point.
