Racing Bike Tour to the Jaufenpass Mountain Pass

You start your tour in the village centre of St Leonhard in Passeier (approx. 680 m) and join the Jaufenstraße (SS 44). From the very beginning, the road climbs at a steady, demanding gradient and winds uphill through the first hairpin bends in shaded sections of forest.

After leaving the forest, you reach the village of Walten after a short flat section through a gallery. Along the houses, the gradient increases again and the road winds through partly tight bends up to the next hairpin bend above Innerwalten inn (approx. 1,400 m).

You now enter another section of forest, which takes you through several steep hairpin bends to the tree line. Passing another gallery, you finally reach the famous "Römerkehre". From here, the final nearly 2 kilometres await you before you reach the summit of Jaufenpaass (2,094 m).

From Jaufenpass, the route either continues down the northern side to Sterzing or follows the same hairpin-rich route back into Passeiertal Valley.

• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to St. Leonhard

• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards Meran, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to St. Leonhard

• Coming from the Timmelsjoch towards Moos, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße towards St. Leonhard

Wear a cycle helmet and weather-appropriate clothing and take enough water and food with you. Before setting off, check your bike and make sure that the brakes, tyres and lights are working properly.

During your cycle tour, pay attention to traffic and the road conditions. Check the weather forecast in advance and take extra care in wet conditions, on slippery sections or when road conditions change.
