Rollin’ on the river

Long-distance bike paths and river paths in South Tyrol

South Tyrol’s bike paths, cycle routes, and river bike routes look like a spider’s web on a map. They run through the main valleys, branch out into the side valleys, and connect South Tyrol’s medieval and lively towns as well as the rural villages, hamlets, and sights. If you want to get around without a car and therefore without stress during your holiday in South Tyrol, then cycling as a means of transport and bike paths are the right choice for you!
Vinschgau/Val Venosta
The Vinschgau/Val Venosta bike path runs along the Etsch/Adige river – on the same route as the Via Claudia Augusta – one of the most popular cycle routes in Europe.

Meran/Merano and Environs
Not visiting the spa town of Meran/Merano and simply riding past it on the bike path would be a sin. There is so much to see and take in here. Museums, gardens, or simply a scoop of gelato along the beautiful spa promenade.

Southern South Tyrol
The bike path along the Etsch/Adige river leads from South Tyrol to Trentino and on to Trento and beyond in a relatively uninteresting manner. If you prefer more variety, you’ll have to head towards Eppan/Appiano and Lake Kaltern/Caldaro, following the wine routes. It's beautiful!

Eisacktal/Valle Isarco and Brixen/Bressanone
The Brenner/Brennero bike path from north to south through the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco connects Sterzing/Vipiteno, Brixen/Bressanone, and Klausen/Chiusa. The river bike path through South Tyrol even climbs a few metres in altitude. From Brixen/Bressanone, you can also reach Pustertal/Val Pusteria or Villnöss/Val di Funes.

Pustertal/Val Pusteria
From the main town of Pustertal/Val Pusteria, Bruneck/Brunico, the Pustertal/Val Pusteria bike path leads either to Brixen/Bressanone or in the direction of Toblach/Dobbiaco, Innichen/San Candido and along the Drau river to East Tyrol, always along the Rienz river. There are many side bike paths branching off to the left and right into the side valleys and villages along the river bike path.
