Your Pumptrack Guide: Frequently Asked Questions about the Rules

Pumptracks are a great way to have fun while improving your riding skills. In South Tyrol, they are becoming increasingly popular with both locals and visitors. To ensure safety and fairness for everyone, there are a few simple rules. Here you’ll find the answers to the most common questions:

Who can use the pumptrack?

Q: Is the pumptrack suitable for all ages?
A: Yes. Pumptracks are designed for all ages and skill levels. There are usually easier sections for beginners and more challenging ones for advanced riders. Always check the signs on site for any restrictions.

Q: Can I ride any kind of bike?
A: Pumptracks are mainly built for BMX, mountain bikes and gravel bikes. Many tracks also allow skateboards, scooters or inline skates, provided they don’t damage the surface or endanger others. Check the specific rules of each pumptrack before riding.

What safety gear is mandatory?

Q: Do I have to wear a helmet?
A: Yes, a helmet is always mandatory, regardless of age or skill level. It protects you reliably against head injuries.

Q: Do I need additional protective gear?
A: Strongly recommended are knee pads, elbow pads and gloves. They can’t prevent crashes, but they reduce the risk of injuries significantly.

How should I behave on the pumptrack?

Q: Which riding direction is allowed?
A: Always ride in the designated direction. Going against the flow is extremely dangerous.

Q: How should I act when others are on the track?
A: Keep your distance and only overtake if it is safe. Pay extra attention to children and beginners.

Q: What should I do if I crash or need a break?
A: Leave the track immediately to clear the way for others. Take your break at a safe spot off the track.

Q: Am I allowed to stop on the track?
A: No, never. Breaks must be taken off the riding surface.

Further important notes

Q: Can I bring food or drinks onto the pumptrack?
A: No. Use the designated rest areas and make sure not to leave any litter.

Q: Are dogs allowed on the pumptrack?
A: Not on the track itself. In adjacent areas, dogs are usually permitted if kept on a leash.

Q: What if the pumptrack is wet or damaged?
A: Do not ride when the surface is wet, icy or visibly damaged. It’s dangerous and harms the facility. Report damages to the operators.

Q: Is there an age limit for riding alone?
A: There is no fixed limit. Children should only use the pumptrack under adult supervision and according to their skills. Parents should assess realistically what their kids can do.

If everyone follows these simple rules, the pumptracks in South Tyrol will remain safe and enjoyable meeting spots for the whole community.
