Pustertal Valley Bike Route: Bruneck - Franzenfeste
E-Bike & Pleasure Cycling
The section of the Pustertal cycle path from Bruneck to Franzensfeste takes you through varied landscapes, past historic sites and through different valleys. The route combines nature and culture and is ideal if you want to explore the region in an active and relaxed way.
Directions
The cycle route starts in the centre of Bruneck at 835 metres and follows the River Rienz towards St. Lorenzen. This section runs mainly along gravel paths. Shortly before St. Lorenzen, you join a paved road that leads directly into the village centre at 810 metres.
After St. Lorenzen, the route briefly leaves the river and continues through the hamlet of St. Martin towards the Gadertal Valley. Along the Pflaurenzer Kopf, you return to the river and follow the railway line. Alternating climbs and descents take you westwards through Ehrenburg at 805 metres to Kiens. Meadows, fields and forests accompany you to St. Sigmund and onwards to Obervintl and Niedervintl.
From Niedervintl, the route descends gently past the historic Mühlbacher Klause before climbing to Mühlbach at 777 metres. You can continue over a small hill to the edge of Schabs at 772 metres. After passing beneath the main road, follow a quiet side road through Aicha at 730 metres to Franzensfeste Fortress. Here, the Pustertal cycle route joins the Brenner cycle route, which runs from the Brenner Pass to Bolzano.
